Exit Pest Wellington | Darren Labrum
Fleas like warmer climates, but as homes and buildings become better heated and insulated they are becoming more prevalent in cooler climates. Commonly found in vacated premises which have previously contained domestic pets or animals. They occur periodically in dwellings where pets are kept inside or other animals frequent outside. They occur in buildings where there is high foot traffic e.g. banks, hospitals, and hotels, and occasionally get bought into the premises by people or their belongings.
Fleas are almost impossible to detect as eggs or larvae and usually only noticed in adult form. Try using a white sheet on the floor or the bed to properly identify the problem (you may see them jumping against the white background).
They are one of the more important groups of insect pests because they not only cause itching and discomfort by biting, but they can transmit several diseases such as plague and murine typhus.
Thorough spraying with and approved insecticide to areas including carpets, soft furnishings such as couches, wardrobes and under beds etc.
If the pet has Fleas, the owner must arrange for the pet to be treated around the day of the treatment.
Spot treatment to places the animal rests such as the sub-floor (basement), porch, outdoor furniture etc.
Prevent wild animals such as Rodents, Possums and Birds from entering the building as they may carry Fleas.
MANY ‘OVER THE COUNTER’ PRODUCTS FROM THE SUPERMARKET OR HARDWARE STORE ONLY CONTROL SMALL AREAS OF THE HOUSE OR DO NOT KILL THE EGG STAGE.
Exit Pest provides effective treatments which consist of applying an appropriately labeled insecticide and insect growth regulator (used for larval stage control) to the affected areas, with thoroughness being the key to success.
